After all these days of hearing about Google's endless set of new products we finally have a refreshing one from Yahoo! smush it! is a free web service developed by two Yahoo employess. The service aims to reduce the size of images used on web pages so that the time taken to load the web pages by the browser is considerably reduced.
End users can make use of smushit's services in 3 different ways on their website-
1. by directly uploading images
2. by providing the link to images on the web
3. by using a FireFox extension made by the developers
I used the application and it worked pretty successfully for me...all that I'm hoping for is a kind of stand-alone application that would do the same thing; until now if you needed to reduce the size of an image you had to use some software or the other-Photoshop, GIMP, etc. You can now use smushit from anywhere in the world- and it produces lossless images too!
I read the developer's blogs and found out that they are planning to release a API soon....best of luck to them!
Check out smushit!
The developers: Nicole Sullivan & Stoyan Stefanov
